Greece

At last we're into the final strait, Group D (aka the Group of Much of a Muchness) containing Russia, Spain, Sweden and first up, the surprise Champions from last time out, Greece.

Greece
Official coach slogan - One team, one dream!
Unofficial coach slogan - One-nil, one-nil, one-nil, all the way to the final!

The Greeks, led, as they were four years ago, by the canny German, Otto Rehhegal, proved in Portugal 2004 that a well drilled team, playing in a very defined shape and with the correct tactics can defeat teams who are supposedly far ahead in terms of skill and containing well known "superstars", albeit by playing in a stifling, negative manner.

Although they romped through their qualification group, gaining a record-breaking 31 points (and this despite losing 4-1 in Athens to their old enemies, Turkey) expectations will be lower this time around and with an aging team reaching the knock out stages will be a major achievement.

If their winning tactics from EURO 2004 are any guide, Greece will mainly be relying on a strictly defensive 4-5-1 formation and any attacking intent is likely to come from setpieces, where their huge defenders Traianos Dellas (6ft 5in), Paraskevas Antzas (6ft 2in) and Sotirios Kyrgiakos (6ft 4in) will be a constant menace.

Upfront the goal threat will mostly come from Bayer Leverkusen striker, Theofanis Gekas, who managed 11 Bundesliga goals in a stop start season as well as getting 5 goals in qualification .

TC's predicition - The Greeks will struggle in a relatively strong group and won't progress through to the quarter-finals despite being unbeaten (3 draws).

Player most liable to cause Dutch commentators to spit all over the place - Rising star and left-back, Vassilis Torosidis.
